Overview of IFTTT

IFTTT (short for ‘If This Then That’) is a website that allows you to create automations to make your life easier. As an example today we’re going to walk through how to automatically publish new website posts to a chosen social media account.

Please note, we recommend publishing content to your website first and then automating the social media post from here. It’s better to keep all your content in one place (you website) and directing users back to the site via social media.

Autopost to Facebook Set Up

Firstly, you will need to create a free account on IFTTT here. Follow the steps online to complete this registration.

  1. Go to https://ifttt.com and create an account if you don’t already have one.
  2. Click on the “Create” button in the top right corner of the page.
  3. Click on the “If This” button to select the trigger for your recipe. This will be the action that initiates the recipe, such as a new post being published on your WordPress site.
  4. Search for WordPress in the list of available services.
  5. In the new page that opens, select “Any new post”.
  6. Add the details for your wordpress website.
  7. Click the “Create Trigger” button.
  8. Click on the “If That” button to select the action for your recipe. This will be the action that occurs as a result of the trigger, such as a post being published on a social media platform.
  9. Search for Facebook Pages in the list of available actions.
  10. In the new page that opens, select “Create a link post”.
  11. Click the “Connect” button to add your Facebook Page account details and follow the login instructions on screen.
  12. Once you have connected your Facebook page, add the ingredients that you want to display in your post. We recommend at least the following:
    1. Link URL = PostUrl
    2. Message = PostContent
  13. Click the “Create action” button at the bottom
  14. You will then be brought back to the Create page to see your chosen recipe. Click “Continue”.
  15. Give your Applet a title and click Finish.

From now on, every time you publish a new post on your WordPress site, IFTTT will automatically trigger the recipe and post the new content to your chosen social media platform.
